Yale-PCCSM Newsletter - Sept. 9, 2022

September is always special in Connecticut. Fall, probably our most beautiful season, arrives, and in New Haven, a city dominated by academic seasons, September is especially brimming with excitement and rejuvenation.

For us, last year was among our best ever, with record numbers of patients seen in our new Winchester Center for Lung Disease, and our inpatient services. We also had unprecedented success in our research and training programs, including the funding of new RO1 grants to five early-stage investigators who are faculty at Yale-PCCSM.

Because nothing exemplifies our success more than the new early-career faculty who have joined us, I thought of highlighting them: Snigdha Jain, MD; Christopher Morton, MD; Gail Stanley, MD, MPH; Samir Gautam, MD, PhD; Edward Manning, MD, PhD; Jacqueline Geer, MD; Akhil Khosla, MD; and Isabel Bazan, MD. They differ in their backgrounds, upbringing, education, career interests, and plans, but they are all poised to contribute to all dimensions of our mission -- clinical care, research, education, and DEI, and we are excited that they have joined us! Below you will also find some reports on our fellows, on our recognitions at the recent ATS conference, and many more items I feel you will find interesting.

On a last note, for me personally, September is also a month of holidays, as the Jewish High Holidays usually happen in September/October, and this year the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is on September 25th. In my family, we have a saying: to counter everything that happens in the world, we need to do everything we can to make sure that the year is good, so we join the Happy New Year wishes of all denominations, religions, or calendar systems. Let me wish you a Happy, Safe, Fulfilling and Healthy New Year. Shanah Tova to all of us!
