Research and Education Core

The overall objective of the Yale ADRC Research Education Core (REC) is to serve as a central hub for educational, didactic, and career development activities aimed at fostering the next generation of leaders in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) research. The REC identifies promising junior investigators with a strong interest in dementia and provides them with the tools, resources, and mentorship needed to launch and sustain successful research careers. By supporting scholars from a range of disciplines, the REC encourages integration across basic, clinical, and population-based approaches to address the multifaceted challenges of dementing illnesses. To support early-career investigators, the REC offers structured mentorship, targeted training opportunities, interdisciplinary collaboration, and individualized career development plans. It also helps prepare scholars to secure independent research funding. In parallel, the REC promotes rigorous and innovative research spanning biological mechanisms, translational strategies, and clinical applications relevant to ADRD, in part through Pilot Awards and Research Scholar funding that provide early-stage support for new projects. The REC also organizes formal courses, retreats, symposia, and conferences to build community, foster collaboration, and expose investigators to emerging advances in the field. In addition to research support, the REC cultivates leadership skills and a collaborative mindset through workshops, seminars, and integration with broader Yale research initiatives. These experiences prepare investigators not only to lead productive research teams but also to become mentors to the next generation. Ultimately, the REC aims to establish a strong pipeline of investigators equipped to drive high-impact research and advance strategies that improve the lives of individuals affected by dementing disorders.
