Gilbert Moeckel MD, PhD, FASN

Biographical Info

Dr Moeckel is a native of Germany, where he studied medicine at Ludwig Maximillians University in Munich. He graduated magna cum laude with a thesis in renal biochemistry. He trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Arizona, and was on faculty in the Department of Pathology at Vanderbilt University for eight years prior to becoming the Director of the Renal Pathology and Electron Microscopy laboratory at Yale. His academic interests are in clinical renal pathology and in research of the underlying mechanisms of kidney injury and progression of renal failure. Dr Moeckel is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology. He has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals and has received private industry and federal grants to support his research.
