About the Smilow Luminary Awards of Excellence
The Smilow Luminary Awards of Excellence honor people who consistently exceed performance expectations and deliver high-quality cancer care for patients, families and the health system throughout the year. The award categories are:
Community Service
Honors members of the organization that have aided the cancer community in extraordinary ways. Someone who embraces community diversity and demonstrates community benefit by improving the health and well-being of our cancer communities through healthcare, economic or social initiatives. All nominees must demonstrate the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behaviors in their professional practice.
Leadership
Honors members of the organization that demonstrate leadership in patient safety and quality improvement. Award selection criteria are weighted to reflect an emphasis on leadership and mentorship consistent with the mission, vision and values. Honoree who not only leads a team but also serves as the mentor for others. All nominees must demonstrate the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behaviors in their professional practice.
Optimization/Innovative Solutions
Honors members of the organization who develop or support developments in innovation or optimizing a system or process (i.e. reducing readmission rates; turning rooms over in a more efficient way; ensuring requests are completed in a timely and efficient manner, etc.) All nominees must demonstrate the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behaviors in their professional practice.
Patient Experience
Honors members of the organization who go above and beyond to provide an excellent cancer care experience for our patients and families. Someone who facilitates initiatives to improve or exceed goals, elevating the patient experience. All nominees must demonstrate the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behaviors in their professional practice.
Research
Honors members of the organization that are involved in the ongoing processes of discovery and/or interpretations of discovery in cancer care research, including those who serve in supporting roles. May include basic research establishing the building blocks for future oncologic clinical outcomes, clinical research to improve patient care, population-based research exploring cancer cases and trends in specific populations and translational research helping to move research findings into everyday cancer. All nominees must demonstrate the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behaviors in their professional practice.
