Are you there blog? It’s me, Margaret.

October 12, 2021

Hi! My name is Margaret Hankins. As a sophomore at Yale, I call Trumbull College home, but I’m originally from Washington, D.C. I’m currently planning to major in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, and I am excited to introduce myself as one of the new undergraduate fellows with Women’s Health Research at Yale. Along with Gillian, I will be contributing my voice to this blog over the next year.

After 18 months of this pandemic, it might feel as though all the takes have already been written and updated and then discussed again on Twitter. But stories about the pandemic’s effects on marginalized communities remain scant and these effects will only continue to grow. It will be more important than ever to understand how gender, race, ethnicity, class and sexual orientation intersect in cases of health and disease.

Most of my entries will focus on questions I have had but was maybe too scared to ask (until now). For example, I want to know what I should be asking my doctor, the obstacles women in science fields face, and what health and wellness looks like in college. Let’s see what we can discover.

I’m so thrilled to be a fellow for WHRY this year and to continue the work of the previous contributors to this blog — Ke’ala, Anjali, Suyeon, and Dhiksha. It’s great to “meet” you, and I look forward to our journey.
