About Us
At Yale Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we provide expert, compassionate care for children and adults. Our patient and family-oriented care is centered on a team approach. In each of our programs, we collaborate with a team of medical specialists from multiple disciplines to offer comprehensive treatment plans, from diagnostics, to surgery and recovery, to clinical follow-up and observation. But our most valued team member is the patient. Our patients' and their loved ones' thoughts, concerns, and goals are an integral part of creating a personalized treatment plan.
Offering the most current diagnostic and surgical techniques, we improve the lives of children born with congenital (birth) defects, such as craniosynostosis and cleft palate; treat disorders that affect breathing and sleeping, such as sleep apnea; reconstruct the joints and delicate tissues of the upper extremities due to degenerative disease, work-related stress, trauma, and congenital defects; and reconstruct the face, neck, breasts, and other body parts altered by cancer treatment. We help improve the aesthetic balance of the face and contour of the body, creating a more youthful appearance and improved symmetry with safe, leading-edge cosmetic surgical procedures.
As faculty of the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Surgery, our surgeons are at the forefront of advancing medical knowledge through clinical and translational research. Their findings have helped change the approach of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Because our surgeons continually integrate the most up-to-date techniques in their practice, their patients benefit from superlative surgical treatments and clinical trials, when available.
Below is a selection of recent accomplishments and research by professionals in our section:
- Our surgeons developed new instruments and a new operative procedure for distraction of cranial base for craniosynostosis.
- We developed a new technique for cosmetic blepharoplasty and enhanced procedures in body contouring, with abdominoplasty and liposuction, as well as breast lift procedures.
- Our researchers provided the first evidence that a novel steroid-like compound that clinically restores bone mass after sex steroid withdrawal functions primarily by way of its metabolism to a ligand for the androgen receptor.
