Information for Interns
Eligibility
- Must be 16 years old by June 24th, 2025
- Must have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0
- Must reside in New Haven, CT and attend a public high school in New Haven
- Must attend the entire program (June 24th to August 23rd, 2025)
Please note that preference is given to high school juniors and students who have not previously had extensive research experience. Preference is also given to students who have participated in Yale Pathways to Science programs.
Application
The application will open in January 2025. The application process includes the following steps:
- Go through the full list of host labs participating in YNSS 2025. For the labs you are interested in, carefully review the project description and prerequisites.
- Complete the online application. This includes short essays, transcript upload (unofficial is acceptable), and a resume upload.
- Ensure that two STEM teacher recommendations are submitted by your teachers.
Dates & Information
- Time commitment: 40 hours per week (9 AM - 5 PM), June 24 - Aug 23
- Educational Stipend: $4,500, paid after completion of all program requirements

* Monday-Thursday: Interns will work on their projects in their host labs.
Wednesday: Interns will attend weekly lunch meetings with program leadership.
Friday Mornings: Interns will work on their projects in their host labs.
Friday Afternoons: Interns will attend YNSS workshops and group mentorship activities.
