Clinical Care

Overview

Motasem Salameh, MD, is an orthopaedic trauma and foot and ankle surgeon dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care to his patients.

Before starting his orthopaedic surgery residency, Dr. Salameh volunteered with Doctors Without Borders in Amman, Jordan, where he was part of a reconstructive surgery team treating patients with severe injuries, including post-explosion injuries and burns. Reflecting on this transformative experience, Dr. Salameh says, "It was a life-changing experience to work with patients in such critical conditions. It reinforced my commitment to improving lives through surgery."

After completing his residency, Dr. Salameh pursued two years of advanced fellowship training. He specialized in foot and ankle surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and further completed his training in orthopedic trauma at Yale University School of Medicine. His extensive training has prepared him to handle a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, from acute injuries to chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

Dr. Salameh is passionate about orthopaedic surgery because of the profound and immediate impact it can have on a patient's life. "When a patient comes in with a fracture, they are often in pain and unable to function. It's rewarding to help them recover, allowing them to return to their normal lives," he explains. In emergency situations, Dr. Salameh ensures that patients fully understand their diagnosis and treatment plan, helping them feel informed and reassured during stressful moments.

Currently, Dr. Salameh provides care at Yale, where he treats a wide range of conditions, including complex fractures, post-fracture complications, deformities, arthritis, and sports injuries of the foot and ankle. He performs both joint replacement (arthroplasty) and reconstructive surgeries (repairing and restoring function in a joint).

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Salameh is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Yale School of Medicine. His research interests include foot and ankle injuries, as well as fractures of the pelvic ring and hip socket, areas in which he continues to contribute to advancements in the field.
