Biography

Madison Jewell is an MD-PhD student from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.S. in Neuroscience in 2020. While at UChicago, Madison completed research in the lab of Dr. Frtizie Arce-McShane, studying motor and sensory cortical dynamics associated with feeding behavior. From 2020 to 2025, Madison worked in the lab of Dr. Allan Basbaum at UCSF, studying the neuroanatomical correlates of pain processing, with special emphasis on mechanisms of anesthetics and the organization of sensory projection neurons in the spinal cord. As an MD-PhD candidate, Madison hopes to continue her investigation of sensory systems and work toward improving the lives of people in pain through scientific discovery.
