The Yale Department of Surgery esophagectomy program received a three-star overall composite score for excellent performance from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).

Esophagectomy is a minimally invasive procedure for esophageal cancer and other esophageal disorders. The surgical team removes a portion or the entire esophagus through small incisions, using specialized instruments. Clinical outcomes vary in the United States. The STS esophagectomy composite score compares total morbidity and mortality rates with national clinical outcomes. A three-star rating positions Yale New Haven Hospital among the top 4% of STS centers performing esophagectomy in the United States.
