Yale Cancer Center is pleased to announce that Jennifer Afranie-Sakyi, MD, has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) to participate as one of nine outstanding fellows in the 2024 ASH Minority Hematology Fellow Award (MHFA). This award encourages early-career researchers from historically underrepresented groups in the United States and Canada to pursue career in academic hematology.
Each MHFA awardee will receive $100,000 for a two- to three-year period to guarantee protected time for clinical or laboratory-based hematology research projects, to develop additional skills in the conduct of research, and generate preliminary data. They will have the opportunity to attend the ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, where they will present their research findings at the Promoting Minorities in Hematology event at the end of their research term.
Dr. Afranie-Sakyi is a fellow in the Medical Oncology-Hematology Fellowship Program and is mentored by Cece Calhon, MD, MPHS, MBA, and Alfred Lee, MD, PhD. Her research is focused on understanding neurocognitive outcomes in adults with sickle cell disease.
