Biography

Janet A. Madigan, M.D. is an experienced clinician and educator in the fields of infant mental health; child, adolescent and adult psychiatry; and psychoanalysis. In private practice in New Haven for over 25 years she specializes in the developmental/psychiatric assessment and treatment of individuals of all ages including infants, toddlers and preschool children and their parents. Her treatment expertise is in individual psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy of children, adolescents and adults of all ages and includes family treatment, medication therapy and pediatric/educational collaboration as indicated. Her assessment and treatment are based upon a comprehensive biologic/psychologic/social model of development that includes research advances in the fields of child developmental psychology, neurology and psychoanalysis. She received her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College with majors in Biology and Philosophy; her medical training at New York Medical College; her child, adolescent and adult psychiatry training at the Yale Department of Psychiatry and Yale Child Study Center; her infant mental health training through the National Center for Clinical Infant Programs (Birth to Three); and her psychoanalytic training at the Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis. Board Certified in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry, she is a clinical faculty member of the Yale Child Study Center, the Yale Department of Psychiatry, and the Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis where she supervises, teaches and mentors residents, fellows and psychoanalytic candidates. Scholarly interests include attachment disorders, infant response to maternal depression, atypical personality development and treatment, psychological trauma, psychotherapeutic process and technique in child, adolescent, and adult psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, therapeutic intervention with parents, pediatric-psychiatric collaboration, mentoring and the supervisory process. As a clinician she is consistently awarded recognition in CT Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, and Top Doctors in the NY Metro Area. She lives in New Haven where she is an active multidisciplinary collaborator with other professionals and educators in the community.
