Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology Newsletter

June 2024

Message from Richard Bucala, MD, PhD

Dear Colleagues,

It was great to see many of our Yale faculty and fellows come together to attend our recent Yale International Rheumatology State of the Art Symposium. Held at the New Haven Lawn Club, the event featured lectures and discussion sessions by experts from the U.S., Europe, and New Zealand. Now in its fourth year, the symposium continues to be distinguished by multidisciplinary presentations. This year’s topics included emerging new therapies such as CAR T cells, the role of biosimilars, new applications for JAK inhibitors, and musculoskeletal ultrasound, as well as advances in our knowledge of the pathogenesis of interstitial lung disease, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and osteoarthritis. Thanks to everyone for your participation and continued contributions to what has become a recurring success for our section.

In this newsletter, we highlight Scleroderma Awareness Month, a novel cancer vaccine for dogs, and faculty awards, among other news. We also announce the establishment of the new Endowed Catalyst Fund in Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, which will support innovation in research and clinical care.

I hope you enjoy reading the news from our section. Have a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,

Richard Bucala, MD, PhD
