Yale Addiction Medicine Consult Service

The Yale Addiction Medicine Consult Service (YAMCS) is a hospital-based service started in October 2018 and currently comprises a team of attending physicians, Addiction Medicine Fellows, advanced practice providers, social workers and health promotion advocates. The service is headed by Medical Director and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Dr. Melissa Weimer. YAMCS provides addiction assessment and treatment to patients who are hospitalized at both campuses of Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) for a range of medical conditions including substance use disorder (SUD) and other relevant medical disorders, such as chronic pain, pregnancy, and infective endocarditis. In 2020, Dr. Weimer and Dr. Deepa Camenga expanded YAMCS to provide services to adolescents and young adults who are hospitalized at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. Patients seen by YAMCS are offered evidence-based treatment during hospitalization and connected to ongoing addiction care in the community after hospital discharge. The consult service is a primary training site for the ACGME-accredited Yale Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program and serves as a clinical training site and an elective rotation for medical students, health professions students, Yale Palliative Care Fellows, and also for Yale Primary Care (YPC) residents and physician associate (PA) students.
