Built on over 30 years of pioneering research, the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine is internationally recognized for developing innovative treatment models, providing state-of-the-art training, and attracting leaders in the field.
Highlighted Achievements
- Creating the Addiction Recovery Clinic, a specialty chronic disease management clinic embedded within the New Haven Primary Care Consortium (NHPCC), which serves a dual mission of caring for patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and educating Yale Primary Care residents.
- Creating the Yale Addiction Medicine Consult Service and ED Initiated Buprenorphine Program, innovative services for the treatment of substance use disorders for patients in the hospital and emergency department.
- Collaborating across departments within the School of Medicine to design and sustain a Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) training program for medical residents and students.
- Developing an Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program that provides training in both clinical and research skills.
- Launching the Collaborative Behavioral Health and Addiction Medicine in Primary Care (CHAMP) training program to provide enhanced training in addiction medicine, behavioral health, and provider wellness to primary care residents and physician associate students.
- Establishing career development programs such as Yale Drug Use, Addiction, and HIV Research Scholars (DARHS)(in partnership with the Department of Emergency Medicine) and Research in Addiction Medicine Scholars (RAMS) (in partnership with Boston Medical Center and Boston University) for young faculty aimed at honing their research and clinical skills in addiction medicine.
- Working with the state to lead the Connecticut Opioid Response (CORE) Initiative team, support the work of the Alcohol and Drug Policy Council (ADPC), and develop a strategic plan to address addiction and overdose from opioid misuse in the state of Connecticut.
