The March 2024 issue of the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine (YJBM), on Pregnancy and Child Development, will be published on PubMed Central (PMC) on March 29. This focus issue will feature articles on perinatal development, pregnancy, and postpartum experiences of humans who give birth and their babies.
Highlights of the issue will include an original research paper by Kay et al. (Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto, ON, Canada and Sinai Health, Toronto) where they discuss the critical role of social support for mothers and its impact on depression and PTSD.
An interview by Udita Iyengar (King’s College London, London, UK) with Jessie Hunt (Action for Postpartum Psychosis, London) provides a first-person account of postpartum psychosis in the UK. Iyengar and Hunt discuss that often stigmatized mental illness and the experience of treatment/recovery.
Lastly, we will present a perspectives piece by Deanna Nardella (Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, CT, USA) on breast pumps to promote equitable health outcomes for pregnant individuals and their infants. Nardella shows the inequities of breast pump education, access, and policy, which has a negative impact on health outcomes for high-risk populations.
