Yale commuters and and patients visiting Yale Medical Group providers may find that New Haven’s Downtown Crossing project affects their regular route to the medical campus.
The Downtown Crossing project will reclaim 10 acres of land currently used as highway in New Haven and make it available for development, including residential, retail, and health care, and research facilities.
If you work or study at a medical campus location, alternate directions below may help you get to your location faster. Commuting resources can be found at the university's Transportation Options website, here.
If you are a patient, ongoing construction may affect your access to Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale Physicians Building main entrances, and parking facilities. Even if your regular route into New Haven is not changing, you may run into delays, and therefore you may want to allow for extra time to get to your appointment.

To Air Rights Garage
I-95 traveling north or south and I-91 traveling south: Route 34 west to Exit 2. Follow N. Frontage Road and turn left into the Air Rights Garage.
To Yale-New Haven Hospital Main Entrance, York Street Campus Valet
I-95 traveling north or south and I-91 traveling south: Route 34 west to Exit 2. Follow N. Frontage Road and turn left onto College Street, then right onto Howard Avenue. Turn right onto York Street for the main hospital entrance valet parking.
To Smilow Cancer Hospital Main Entrance and Valet
I-95 traveling north or south and I-91 traveling south: Route 34 west to Exit 2. Follow N. Frontage Road and turn left onto Park Street. Smilow Cancer Hospital main entrance and valet is on the left, before Howard Avenue.
To Yale-New Haven Hospital Adult and Pediatric Emergency Valet and Drop-off; and Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Valet
I-95 traveling north or south and I-91 traveling south: Route 34 west to Exit 2. Follow N. Frontage Road and turn left onto College Street, then right onto Howard Avenue. Entrances are on the right.
To Yale Physicians Building and Yale-New Haven Hospital Primary Care Center
I-95 traveling north or south and I-91 traveling south: Route 34 west to Exit 2. Follow N. Frontage Road and turn left onto College Street, then right onto Howard Avenue. Park in the Howard Avenue Garage, located at the corner of Howard Avenue and College Street.
To Yale-New Haven Hospital, Saint Raphael Campus Parking
I-95 traveling north or south and I-91 traveling south: Route 34 west to Exit 2. Follow N. Frontage Road and turn right onto Orchard Street, then left into the George Street Garage or right into the Orchard Street Garage.
Please be advised:
- Signs will be posted to help guide you.
- Local business access will be maintained during all detours and lane closures.
- Work will occur weather permitting and will be rescheduled as necessary.
- All work is scheduled to occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
