Barbara Irene Kazmierczak PhD, MD

Biographical Info

Dr. Kazmierczak received her Ph.D. from Rockefeller University (1993) and her M.D. from Cornell University Medical College (1994), both in New York City. She completed an Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. She began research on the opportunistic bacterial pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, while a postdoctoral scientist at UCSF.
Dr. Kazmierczak joined the faculty at Yale School of Medicine in 2001. She currently holds appointments in both Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and Microbial Pathogenesis. She sees hospitalized patients as an attending physician on the Infectious Diseases consult service. Her laboratory studies the bacterial and host factors that enable environmental bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, to cause opportunistic infections.
