Resident Rotations

Residents have required inpatient and outpatient rotations each year complimented by an array of elective opportunities in general internal medicine, all medical subspecialties, global health, and research. The rotation schedule consists of thirteen four-week blocks. The inpatient rotations are a mix of specialty teams (Oncology,Liver Disease, Renal Disease, HIV Disease) and general medicine including a Firm dedicated to care of the elderly hospitalized patient. Residents have four weeks of vacation each year. The majority of the inpatient Firms are set up in a ‘Day Team – Night team’ model where housestaff admit and care for all patients admitted to the Firm in a true team model of care that fosters continuity of care, patient-centeredness, resident to intern teaching, interprofessional collaborations, and attention to quality of care, patient safety and transitions of care. Electives may be taken at any of our training sites and for PGY-II and PGY-III years, at one of our global health sites. Ambulatory medicine rotations include general internal medicine and medical subspecialty experiences and an extensive didactic curriculum as described in the Ambulatory Medicine section of our website. Over the course of training, forty to fifty percent of a trainees experiences will occur in the outpatient setting depending on an individual’s choice of electives.
