Clinical Care

Overview

Gabriele Di Luozzo, MD, is a cardiac surgeon specializing in aortic disease, including aortic dissection, bicuspid aortic valve, and thoracoabdominal aneurysm. He is the chief of cardiac surgery at Bridgeport Hospital.

Dr. Di Luozzo performs advanced surgical procedures, such as thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, aortic arch replacement, and the advanced fenestrated and/or branched endovascular repair (F/BEVAR), for complex abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and atherosclerosis of the aorta cases.

His research focuses on aortic valve and aneurysm studies, investigating topics such as spinal cord protection in aortic surgery, thoracoabdominal aortic repair techniques, cardiovascular disease progression, and gene expression in aortic repair. He also has an interest in mitral valve endocarditis, short-term outcomes of open thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repairs, and potential therapeutic pathways for muscle gene expression profiling after specific aortic repairs. Dr. Di Luozzo also studies the progression of aortic diseases in adults through a national registry, comparing differences between bicuspid and tricuspid aortic valves.

Dr. Di Luozzo is an associate professor of cardiac surgery at Yale University School of Medicine.
