Message from the Emeritus Director

Welcome to the webpage of the Aortic Institute at Yale New Haven Hospital. This site provides information on thoracic aortic aneurysms, their treatment and the related services we offer.

The Aortic Institute is certainly one of the first, if not the very first, formally designated such Institute. It is now one of the largest Institutes in the world for clinical care of patients with aneurysms. We also have one of the most active centers for basic science and clinical research in aortic diseases.

Our team at Yale has contributed substantially to the level of knowledge regarding aortic diseases. We have helped to clarify when aneurysms can be followed and when they need surgery. We have determined that aneurysms are often genetic in origin and we have participated in identifying the errant genes. We recommend strongly that family members of affected patients be screened, and we are equipped to arrange for this at the time of your own visit. We are able to monitor aneurysm activity by some highly specialized blood tests. We aim, through research and expert clinical care, to keep aneurysm patients safe from this virulent disease.

Thank you for your interest in aneurysm disease and in the Aortic Institute.
