Diversity & Equity

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) for faculty, staff, trainees and patients as part of its mission for excellence in women’s health. To learn more, email Sangini Sheth, MD, MPH, Yale Ob/Gyn’s vice chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Our task forces on clinical care & patient outcomes, education, and research & retention are taking a multipronged and interdisciplinary approach to addressing and promoting DEI in the department. We seek to promote diversity and inclusive excellence in how we care for patients, teach the next generation of physicians, discover and disseminate scientific advancements, and proactively provide sponsorship and foster success for all members of the department as we step towards equity. To learn more about our collaborative efforts, visit the Task Force pages below.

Task Force on Clinical Care & Patient Outcomes seeks to explore, understand, and take actions to address racism and health inequities.
Task Force on Education aims to (1) examine our curricula (med school and residency) and (2) understand the prevalence of issues of racism in our learning environment.
Task Force on Research and Retention will identify opportunities to foster and enhance diversity in the research/faculty community.

Inclusive Language Initiative & Glossary

The YSM Office of Curriculum in conjunction with the Health Equity Thread at the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) is striving to create an inclusive learning environment where students, faculty, and staff feel recognized and respected. In communities where inclusion and belonging are priorities, the words that we use are important and can help achieve these goals.
