Digestive Diseases Presents: "4th Triennial Yale / Harvard Workshop on Probiotic Recommendations"

Microbiota in the human gastrointestinal (GI) tract comprise a complex community of microorganisms that contribute to a variety of local and systemic functions vital to development and well-being. Interest in GI microbiota has intensified over the last decade, with research showing that the habitual microbial residents of the gut ("commensals") interact with their host in a very intricate manner, modulating the effect of potentially harmful bacteria, impacting the host's GI tract, digestion, metabolism, and immune system, and perhaps influencing functions beyond the gut. In parallel, there is substantial interest in using probiotics to target the GI microbiota to promote health. This workshop seeks to inform attendees on growing evidence in the field of microbiota and probiotics.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This conference will enable participants to:
 
  • Discuss the transition from sterile GI tract at birth to immuno-healthy
  • Recite the effects of dysbiosis on human health
  • Recount the relationship between the GI microbiota and liver disease
  • Review current evidence for the use of probiotics to target GI microbiota and promote health
