4th Annual Harvard vs. Yale: "The Course: Cases and Controversies in Endoscopy"

This educational activity is approved for a maximum of 12.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(TM).

Save the Dates! Friday and Saturday, April 17th - 18th, 2015. This program is designed to take a case-based and endoscopic video approach to understand the current role of endoscopy in the care of patients with a variety of gastrointestinal diseases. Numerous challenging topics will be explored including the basics of endoscopy, innovations in upper and lower GI disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, and pancreas and biliary tract disorders.  In addition this year's course will feature lectures on practice management, history of endoscopy as well as gastroenterology fellowship related topics.  
This course will also feature debates between Harvard and Yale faculty on areas of endoscopic controversy. In addition, the faculty of each institution will present endoscopic video unknowns to the faculty of the other institution.  This program is designed for gastroenterologists, nurses, physician assistants and nurse practitioners interested in endoscopy and the care of patients with gastrointestinal diseases and the latest information on state of the art treatment of these illnesses.

Learning Objectives
This course will enable participants to:
  • Identify recent advances in the management of upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding including new endoscopic therapeutic techniques
  • Recognize new developments in the management of Barrett's esophagus including the endoscopic management of dysplasia
  • Describe methods of increasing efficiency, improving quality and decreasing complications in gastrointestinal endoscopy units
  • Identify solutions for patients with difficult colons
  • Recognize high quality colonoscopy techniques incorporating the latest metrics and quality indicators
  • Identify the latest advances in endoscopic imaging and be able to apply these techniques to your patients when indicated
  • Discuss special endoscopy topics including, the bariatric patient, ingestion of foreign substances and management of anti-coagulant and anti- platelet agents
  • Summarize upcoming changes in health care delivery in the United States and develop strategies for managing these in practice
  • Examine guidelines to recognize and manage high risk patients for colon cancer
  • Identify the latest updates in the diagnosis and management of patients with pancreaticobiliary diseases
  • Interpret the best strategy in preventing medical complications and being prepared for medico legal challenges
