Meet Ishani Batuwantudave, Portfolio and Grant Accountant

July 20, 2023

What is your role in the Department of Internal Medicine?

As a portfolio and grant accountant within the Department of Internal Medicine, my primary responsibility is the financial management and oversight of a portfolio of accounts. My tasks include financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, and planning. I have the privilege of managing portfolios for a team of principal investigators (PIs) within the Section of Infectious Diseases.

Why did you decide to work at Yale School of Medicine (YSM)?

My family was in the process of relocating from Massachusetts to Connecticut, and having previously worked in the higher education industry, I initially considered Yale University in a casual manner. However, upon meeting with the operations manager and the director of research administration, I quickly realized that a position in research administration at YSM aligned perfectly with my personal goal of making a positive impact on society. By effectively managing portfolios for PIs, I can enable them to focus on their research, which holds great significance for society.

What is the most rewarding part of your career?

The most fulfilling aspect of my career is when my PIs express their gratitude, stating that after our meetings, they have a clear understanding of their portfolio’s status.

What do you enjoy about working at Yale?

The camaraderie among colleagues and the work-life balance are two aspects that I greatly value. Despite transitioning to a remote work environment, we still invest a significant amount of time in connecting with one another through platforms like Teams, emails, Zoom meetings, and occasional in-person meetings. This human connection remains vital and meaningful. I am fortunate to be part of a cohesive and collaborative team, and I have had the privilege of working with exceptional managers who consistently support every aspect of our work and promote a healthy work-life balance. I am immensely grateful for this invaluable support.

What is a fun fact about you?

I love being in nature. Listening to the melodious bird songs and being able to identify them brings me joy. Also, I take pleasure in identifying various plants, particularly mushrooms and moss. I admire the symbiotic relationship mushrooms share with forests, not to mention the captivating beauty mushrooms possess.
