Biography

Dr. Brent Moore received in Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico in 1998 in cognitive psychology, with a minor in quantitative methods. At Westat, a private research firm in suburban Maryland, he was the project director for 2 NIAAA R01 grants evaluating alcohol laboratory studies, and community level DWI interventions. In 2000 he moved to the University of Vermont for a post-doctoral fellowship evaluating the characteristics and course of cannabis use disorders and behavioral treatments. In 2003, he moved to Yale, and began research on expanding and improving treatment for opioid use disorder and characteristics of, and treatments for HIV-infected populations. In 2014, Dr. Moore was promoted to Research Scientist at Yale, and also began work at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System as a Research Psychologist and Health Science Specialist. At the VA-West Haven his is a Core Investigator with the Pain Research, Informatics, Multimorbidities, and Education (PRIME) Center evaluating organizational and educational methods within VA to improve care for pain and substance use disorders.

Research

Overview

A recent research focus has been on chronic pain, particularly as it relates to substance abuse. I am currently a Core investigator at the Pain Research, Informatics, Medical Comorbidities, and Education (PRIME) Center within the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. Finally, over the past 15 years I have been involved in a number of studies evaluating HIV risk behaviors, characteristics of HIV infected patients, HIV medication adherence, and treatment outcomes, and am an affiliate of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS.
