Biography


Dr. Wang is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Digestive Diseases at Yale School of Medicine and Staff Gastroenterologist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare system. Her research program is centered on early detection of pancreatic cancer. Dr. Wang’s overarching goal is to improve on traditional cancer risk prediction by integrating classic epidemiological approaches with human genetics and genomics. Her research focuses on the development and validation of large cohort populations from multiple electronic health record databases linked with biorepositories, identification of high-risk individuals for pancreatic cancer, and discovery of the genetic diversity of pancreatic cancer across multi-ancestry populations.      

She is currently funded through a 5-year Veterans Affairs Career Development Award -2. Her work has been recognized with the Frank Brooks Research Award, Stanley Bradley Award for Clinical Research , and the American Gastroenterological Association Student Abstract of the Year.

Clinical Care

Overview

Louise Wang, MD, MSCE, specializes in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal cancer genomics. Her clinical focus is on treating complex gastrointestinal conditions, such as hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (Lynch Syndrome), gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), and gastrointestinal submucosal tumors.

Dr. Wang’s research interests include cancer detection and risk assessment, gastrointestinal disorders and inflammatory bowel disease, health disparities and socioeconomic factors, health policy and insurance, and celiac disease and bone health. Her work explores vaccines for patients with bowel diseases, cancer risks in diverse populations, criteria for cancer surveillance, complications during colonoscopies, and health outcomes for children with abdominal pain.

Dr. Wang is an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine.
