Overview
Brian DeBroff, MD, is an ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract and refractive surgery, and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, which replaces the eye’s natural lens removed during cataract surgery with a high tech, artificial one. He is a professor of clinical ophthalmology and visual science, and director of cataract and IOL implant surgery for Yale Medicine Ophthalmology.
“Restoring a person's vision gives ultimate satisfaction to both the patient and the treating physician,” says Dr. DeBroff, adding that it helps to have access to the newest technologies, including laser-assisted and multifocal implants. He has particular clinical and research interests in such techniques as no-stitch cataract surgery, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, optiwave refractive analysis, and multifocal and diffractive IOL’s after cataract surgery.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. DeBroff serves as chief of ophthalmology at Bridgeport Hospital, which is part of Yale New Haven Health. He has over 100 publications, is the editor-in-chief of Advances in Ophthalmology & Visual Science, and has held leadership roles for other journals. He has been recognized by Best Doctors, Castle Connolly, Connecticut Magazine, and New York Magazine.
Dr. DeBroff says he is dedicated not only to technical excellence, but also to compassionate care for his patients. “I will treat you as if you were part of my family,” he says.
