Voluntary Faculty Promotion Announcement

September 11, 2023

I am pleased to announce the recent promotion of two of our voluntary faculty members from Clinical Assistant Professor to Clinical Associate Professor in the Voluntary track for the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science: Dr. Leslie Doctor and Dr. Aryan Shayegani.
Dr. Leslie Doctor completed her Ophthalmology residency and a Cornea fellowship at The Ohio State University, and she was initially appointed as Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale School of Medicine in 1999. She is in private practice in Westport CT, where she has a well-established practice while serving on the Medical Advisory Board for the Wilton Surgery Center. Dr. Doctor has been a dedicated teacher and preceptor at the West Haven VA for many years, and she has received the Teacher of the Year Award voted by the residents 4 times since 2005. The Yale School of Medicine Appointments and Promotions Committee and the Board of Permanent Officers have approved the promotion of Dr. Leslie Doctor to Clinical Associate Professor in the voluntary track.
Dr. Aryan Shayegani has been a member of the Yale faculty since 2006, originally on the full-time faculty prior to transitioning to her role on the voluntary faculty where she continues to be involved with the education of our trainees at the VA Hospital. Dr. Shayegani completed her Ophthalmology residency at Columbia University, then went on to complete a cornea and anterior segment and refractive surgery fellowship at the Wilmer Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Beginning in 1998, she has served on the faculties of the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Tokyo Dental College, Department of Ophthalmology. She joined the Yale faculty in 2006 and was a member of our full- time faculty from 2010 to 2013. She has remained active with resident teaching and surgical supervision at the West Haven VA. The Yale School of Medicine Appointments and Promotions Committee and the Board of Permanent Officers have approved the promotion of Dr. Aryan Shayegani to Clinical Associate Professor in the voluntary track.
As you know, the Department of ophthalmology and Visual Science relies on the dedication of our voluntary faculty in assisting with the education of our many trainees. A magnitude of residents in the Yale program have immensely benefited from our voluntary faculty training and teaching. Congratulations to Dr. Doctor and Dr. Shayegani; we are proud to have you as part of our department.
