Vicente Diaz, MD, MBA Appointed as Vice Chair for Clinical Operations in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vicente Diaz as the Vice Chair for Clinical Operations in our department effective April 1, 2023.


As you know Dr. Diaz joined the faculty of Yale School of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science in 2018, and he became Chief of Ophthalmology at Yale Health shortly thereafter. He was recently promoted to Chief of Specialty Services at Yale Health and has taken on the important role of promoting and coordinating our expansion into teleophthalmology in our department. In addition to his role at Yale Health. Dr. Diaz serves as the Chief of Ophthalmology at Bridgeport Hospital and as the departmental leader in Diversity and Inclusion at the medical school.


Dr. Diaz enters this position as an outstanding clinician and medical educator with exceptional credentials. After graduating from Brown University with a BA degree in Latin American Studies, Dr. Diaz attended Yale University School of Medicine and School of Management, simultaneously earning and MD and MBA. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Infectious Disease at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary.


He has expertise in uveitis and anterior segment surgery. His research interests include novel immunomodulatory therapies for the treatment of non-infectious inflammatory disease, management of Stevens Johnson’s Syndrome, and innovative therapies in glaucoma. Dr. Diaz founded the La Unidad Latina Medical Guild and was the architect of their annual medical mission to the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Honduras where he performs surgery, teaches residents, and cares for patients in need; the team created by Dr. Diaz sees between 3,000 – 5,000 patients abroad annually.
