Research Summary

Dr. Chuang has devoted a significant portion of his career to determine the pathogenesis of different pathogens. His primary research interest is to clarify the cellular interaction between Plasmodium, mosquito and host, especially during the first step of infections when the mosquito probes for blood meal, in order to alleviate the unmet need for a novel vaccine to prevent malaria infection. He is also interested in the characterization of the saliva protein of mosquitoes during blood meal in the skin, which determine the fate of plasmodium infection. The overall goal of the research is to identify a vector based strategy that can eliminate the vector born diseases.
