Research Summary

The Vesely Lab focuses on understanding the function of immune inhibitory receptors, sometimes referred to as “immune checkpoints,” in autoimmune skin diseases and skin cancer. We employ cutting-edge techniques such as spatial proteomics and transcriptomics in both human patient samples and mouse models of disease to decipher key inflammatory pathways involved in these disorders. Specifically, we focus on cutaneous lupus erythematosus and lichen planus that lack FDA-approved therapies as well as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis where additional therapies are still needed. Finally, we investigate novel immunoregulatory pathways involved in cancer immune evasion in melanoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Our goal is to visualize immunoregulatory patterns in cutaneous autoimmunity and cutaneous malignancies to identify new therapeutic targets.
