Biography

Associate Professor of Surgery & Anesthesiology (General Surgery, Trauma & Surgical Critical Care); Program Director for the Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Fellowships, Medical Director, Surgical Intensive Care Unit & Surgical Stepdown Units, Yale New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Maerz has certifications from the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and in Surgical Critical Care. Her clinical interests include re-operative surgery, sepsis, resuscitation, and shock. Her research interests include quality improvement in the surgical intensive care unit, clinical outcomes in sepsis, and glycemic control in the critically ill.

Dr. Maerz earned her undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She completed residency training in general surgery at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR. She was fellowship-trained in surgical critical care at the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Surgery. Dr. Maerz has received numerous professional honors and recognition, including the Yale University Department of Surgery Academic Achievement and Departmental Citizenship Award.
