Sex and Gender

The Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine (YJBM) will be publishing an issue devoted to the

topic of Sex and Gender. We are inviting scholars, researchers, and graduate students to submit

original research articles, reviews, case reports, or perspectives within this topic. Specific

subtopics include, but are not limited to:

  • Hormone Replacement Therapy
  • Gender Affirming Care
  • Cancer in Transgender Individuals
  • Beyond the Binary (Non-binary, Intersex health, etc.)
  • Uterine and Ovarian Health
  • Testicular and Prostate Health
  • Mental Health/Technology Effects on Queer Youth
  • Advocacy/Policy Surrounding Queer Health
  • Psychological Effects of Gender Roles

YJBM is a PubMed-indexed, open-access journal whose mission is to provide graduate students and medical students with experience in writing, reviewing, and publishing articles. You can find further guidelines for submission here. The journal has been in publication since 1928 and is supported by an Editorial Board made up of both students and faculty members. Manuscripts are peer-reviewed by faculty in the field and there is no publication fee. The YJBM has a Scopus CiteScore of 5.1 for 2024 and an Impact Factor of 3.9 for 2024.

The length of the manuscript can vary depending on the article type. As part of YJBM’s diversity efforts, we offer double-blind peer review. Reviewer bias (conscious or otherwise) should not affect the science that is published. While we encourage you to submit an anonymized manuscript, we also accept unblinded submissions for single-blind review, where only the reviewer names are kept anonymous.

Please submit manuscripts by March 1, 2027. We encourage early submissions for preliminary feedback. We look forward to reading your submissions!

Chronic Inflammation

The Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine (YJBM) will be publishing an issue devoted to the topic of Chronic Inflammation. We are inviting authors to submit original research articles, reviews, case reports, or perspectives within this field. Specific subtopics include:

  • Post-viral or other infectious antigens
  • Autoimmune and genetic drivers
  • Brain, gut, and other organ system (e.g., kidney, liver, etc.) inflammatory disorders
  • Role of environmental and dietary exposure
  • T-cell exhaustion and cancer
  • Diagnostic, treatment, and management
  • Experimental models
  • Toxogenic contributors
