Is the Influence of Sex and Gender on Health Being Taught in Medical School?
Dr. Njeri Thande, a cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine, is leading an effort with Women’s Health Research at Yale and Yale School of Medicine’s Office of Education to make sure this vital education starts as early as possible. The goal is to build a model for medical schools to fully integrate demonstrated scientific knowledge of how sex and gender influence health into their curricula.

Tomorrow is Today: Elise DeVito
While studying how men and women respond to therapies to treat cocaine addiction as a BIRCWH Scholar, DeVito demonstrated that women had poorer cocaine use outcomes than men. DeVito now hopes to build on previous findings that demonstrate the different reactions of women to nicotine as compared to men and at different points in their menstrual cycles.
