Joan A. Steitz, Ph.D., Sterling Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, was the recipient of the 2016 Jonathan Kraft Prize for Excellence in Cancer Research, which has been awarded by Mass General’s Cancer Center since 2006. The award celebrates achievements in cancer research and is endowed by Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, in honor of his son.
In 2015 Dr. Steitz was awarded the Connecticut Medal of Science, the state's highest recognition, from the Connecticut Academy of Science and Technology. She won the National Medal of Science in 1986.
