Expert Gives Update on Key Issues in Breast Cancer
The following is an edited excerpt of an interview with Anees Chagpar, MD, and Frederick Greene, MD, at the 2017 Southeastern Surgical Congress. For the full video, visit our “Video” page at www.GeneralSurgeryNews.com/?Multimedia.
Dr. Greene: I wanted to ask you about breast cancer in general, just to sort of give your overview because every general surgeon should be interested in where we’re going with breast cancer management and certainly your work in trying to reduce re-excision. Give us sort of an idea of where you think the hot topics are looking in the next one or two years.
Dr. Chagpar: I think that in breast cancer, as with anything else, when we look at the next year, two years, five years, 10 years, I think the key principles are going to be how can we do better? How can we get better outcomes? How can we get better values, so lower costs? How can we affect disparities and allow for better access?
