Dr. David Colen joins Yale Medicine as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a fellowship-trained hand surgeon who specializes in congenital and acquired disorders of the hand as well as microsurgical extremity reconstruction.
Dr. Colen completed both his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Virginia. He then completed an integrated residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, a program known for reconstructive microsurgery. Early in his training, Dr. Colen became interested in hand surgery, particularly the reconstruction of congenital hand disorders. He was an active member of the Penn Hand Transplantation Program, taking part in several hand transplants including world's first and only pediatric hand transplant. Dr. Colen finalized his specialization in adult/pediatric hand surgery and extremity microsurgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery in Boston.
