The Yale Surgery Citizen Awards Committee has named Dr. Ronald Salem the 2022 recipient of The Dr. Walter E. Longo MD Award. Established in 2019, the award recognizes one faculty member per year who has made a significant positive influence on the cultural legacy of the Department of Surgery.

“Dr. Salem was nominated for this award by many of his colleagues and trainees, recognizing his kind, calm and compassionate presence as a leader in our Department. Many of our newest Faculty remarked at how welcomed and supported they felt as members of the Department, thanks to Dr. Salem especially,” said Committee Co-Chair Dr. Vanita Ahuja.

Dr. Salem is the second Faculty member to receive the Walter E. Longo MD Award. Dr. Nina Horowitz was the inaugural honoree in 2019. Nominations for 2022 will run through September.

Additional Yale Surgery Citizen Awards include The Extra Mile Award and the Helping Hand Award, which honor faculty, as well as trainees, clinical staff, administrators and managers, on a quarterly and monthly basis.
