Dr. Kimberly Davis has announced that she will be stepping down as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations for the Department of Surgery, after fourteen years of service in the position. She will continue her role as Division Chief for General Surgery, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care.

“As I look at my Division’s rapid rate of growth, and the expansion of our providers across the state, I have come to the conclusion that it is time for me to step down from the Vice Chair role, and turn my attention to pursuits that I really love – the mentorship and sponsorship of my faculty and the development of the Yale trauma system across the region,” said Dr. Davis.

Over the past fifteen years, Dr. Davis has grown the Department’s four-faculty program into a state-wide enterprise of more than 20 physicians, fellows, and staff. The infrastructure is set to support the establishment of two new Level III trauma centers at Greenwich Hospital and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital; and the introduction of a 12-hour call schedule — in line with progressive institutions across the country who are eliminating 24-hour shifts, with proven improvements in patient outcomes. Dr. Davis will also continue in her national roles as a member of the executive committee (secretary treasurer) of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Trauma, Burns and Critical Care Board of the American Board of Surgery, and on the Editorial Boards of Annals of Surgery, Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and others.

“Dr. Davis’s leadership as Vice Chair has been instrumental, and we look forward to her continued expertise and perspective as we grow our trauma services especially, throughout the region,” said Department of Surgery Chair, Dr. Nita Ahuja.

“We will be collaborating with senior leaders in the coming weeks to restructure our Department’s leadership cabinet to ensure our key priorities and missions, including clinical operations, are supported optimally for our next phase of growth.”
