We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kevin Schuster to the position of Chief of Trauma, Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery and Burn & Wound Care at Bridgeport Hospital. Dr. Schuster currently serves on the Yale School of Medicine faculty as a Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care.

In his new role, effective March 1, 2023, Dr. Schuster will oversee clinical operations and quality improvement initiatives for a growing team of surgeons and clinical staff across the acute care surgery services at Bridgeport and Milford Hospitals. His appointment follows a year-long, nationwide leadership search.

“Dr. Schuster brings to the role a stellar reputation as a surgical leader at Yale, and a keen appreciation for our goal to align clinical operations with the academic missions across the health system,” said Chair of Surgery at Bridgeport Hospital, Dr. Karen E. Gibbs.

Widely known as an authority in both acute care surgery and quality improvement, Dr. Schuster has held leadership positions in many regional and national societies including the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, New England Surgical Society, and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma. He is the current President of the Connecticut Surgical Quality Collaborative and Chairs the Connecticut State Committee on Trauma for the American College of Surgeons.

“Dr. Schuster’s appointment will support the ongoing integration of Yale Medicine and Northeast Medical Group surgeons, allowing the Yale New Haven Health System to expand and standardize trauma care for the residents of Southwestern Connecticut,” said Division Chief for General Surgery, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care, Dr. Kimberly Davis.
