Guiding Principles

Vision, Mission Statement and Values

YNHH is a world-class institution with an abundance of resources. As with any such organization of such size and caliber, it can be difficult at times to wield our resources efficiently. The individual house staff member may find it difficult to navigate towards a particular goal when surrounded by multiple departments, interests, and the daily challenges of working in healthcare, and this takes on paramount importance when the goal is patient care. Our Council seeks to assist the house staff by clearing the way for a lean, efficiently operating path towards each of your goals, including patient care, interdepartmental collaboration, research opportunities and methods, and any other avenue that the house staff wishes to pursue. Towards this end, we seek to promote and employ methodologies including evidence-based outcome measurements and root cause analyses. We also seek to function as a forum for the developmental of any interdepartmental collaboration that has these goals in mind:

Topics of Interest Include

  • Creating a forum to solicit ideas for better interdepartmental collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches to improving the quality and efficiency of patient care at YNHH
  • Seeking to utilize the vast resources at YNHH to solve or improve the challenges and ideas solicited from the house staff
  • Education of residents regarding methodologies and tools for quality improvement, such as root cause analyses

Members Responsibilities

  • Reaching out to various departments to solicit potential quality improvement topics
  • Promoting the use of QI tools/methodologies via educational seminars (collaboration with Education Council) or communication to other departments
  • Pursuing and being in charge of relationship with multiple departments at Yale, including non-house staff departments such as nursing, pharmacy, and IT
