Kravitz honored for service at VA Medical Center

Richard Kravitz, MD, Unit Chief, Firm Director for Acute Psychiatry Services at the VA Medical Center in West Haven, has been honored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for his work at the VA.

Kravitz received an ICARE Respect Award in Veterans Integrated Service Network 1, which comprises Veterans Health Administration operations in the New England region.

He has worked at the VA in West Haven for over 20 years. He was described in his nomination letter as the "heart and soul of our inpatient psychiatry unit," someone who has "attended to many veterans that suffer from severe, chronic and debilitating mental disorders. Many of our veterans admire, respect and know him on a first name basis."

He consistently demonstrates excellence in clinical care, resident education and administrative services. He is a leader in innovation and quality improvement initiatives.

Kravitz has mentored generations of medical students and Yale psychiatry residents during his career.

"As the chief of the psychiatry acute care firm, Dr. Kravitz navigates the multiple needs of our firm with a culture of respect, innovation and quality improvement," according to his nomination letter. "He consistently demonstrates excellence in clinical care, resident education and administrative services. He is a leader in innovation and quality improvement initiatives."
