Biography

Dr. Hossam Tantawy is the Associate Director of Critical Care Medicine and the Associate Director of the ICU Fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine. He received his medical training from Alexandria University in Egypt before completing a residency in Anesthesiology at Yale New Haven Hospital. Subsequently, Dr. Tantawy went on to complete both a Critical Care fellowship and a Cardiac Anesthesia fellowship at Yale, where he joined the faculty as Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology in 2004. Dr. Tantawy is dual board certified in Critical Care Medicine and Perioperative Trans-Esophageal Echocardiography (TEE).

Hossam Tantawy, MD, is an anesthesiologist who focuses on critical care medicine. He serves as the associate director of critical care medicine and the associate director of the ICU fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.

Dr. Tantawy also specializes in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, a specialized ultrasound technique used during surgery to provide detailed images of the heart, aiding in the assessment of cardiac function and guiding surgical decisions.

An associate professor of anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Tantawy studies the effects of fluid resuscitation, which involves administering fluids to patients to maintain adequate blood volume and pressure, and packed red blood cell transfusions, which are used to increase the red blood cell count in patients who have lost blood or have anemia.
