Associate Research Scientist in Therapeutic Radiology

Biography

Dr. Prateek Bhardwaj is an Associate Research Scientist in Prof. Ranjit S. Bindra’s research group in the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale School of Medicine, where he previously worked as a Postdoctoral Associate from February 2022 to September 2026.

His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer treatment response and resistance, with an emphasis on identifying therapeutic vulnerabilities and developing biomarker-guided treatment strategies. At Yale, his work spans acute myeloid leukemia, pediatric sarcomas, and IDH-mutant cancers, integrating cancer biology, functional genomics, DNA damage response, and preclinical drug discovery.

Before joining Yale, he earned his Ph.D. in Nanomedicine and M.Sc. in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, following a B.Sc. in Microbiology from the University of Delhi. His doctoral research focused on developing targeted and stimulus-responsive drug-delivery platforms for cancer therapy, resulting in a patent and several peer-reviewed publications.

Research

Overview

Dr. Bhardwaj’s research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer treatment response and resistance, with the goal of identifying therapeutic vulnerabilities that can be translated into more effective, biomarker-guided treatment strategies.

His work integrates functional genomics, epigenetics, DNA damage response, cancer metabolism, and preclinical pharmacology to investigate therapeutic vulnerabilities across hematologic and solid malignancies. At Yale, his research has contributed to identifying MGMT silencing as a potential therapeutic biomarker in acute myeloid leukemia and investigating the epigenetic regulation of NAPRT loss as a biomarker for NAMPT inhibition in pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma. His work also involves functional genomic screening, mechanistic studies of drug response and resistance, and preclinical evaluation of targeted therapeutic strategies.

His current research focuses on identifying novel therapeutic vulnerabilities in IDH-mutant cancers, particularly understanding how these tumors adapt to targeted therapies and whether these adaptive changes can be exploited to develop more effective treatment strategies.
