New Haven MOMS Partnership to observe National Depression Screening Day

October 03, 2016

The New Haven MOMS Partnership will observe National Depression Screening Day on October 6 by encouraging community residents to speak with their family and friends about mental health and wellness.

National Depression Screening Day falls during Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 2 - 8. Mental health advocates view this week as an opportunity to promote educational events that reduce the stigma regarding mental illness.

National Depression Screening Day began as an effort to increase education, promote awareness, and provide voluntary mental health screenings. The New Haven MOMS Partnership supports this initiative because it provides mental health treatment and supportive services to mothers in the City of New Haven.

The New Haven MOMS Partnership, which aims to increase awareness and improve mental health service delivery for mothers and families in Greater New Haven, encourages people to start a conversation with their family and friends about the importance of mental health. Sharing experiences in managing stress and depression helps build a more accepting, stigma free community. MOMS Partnership offers a number of classes, including stress management, in which mothers learn how to confront mental illness.

The New Haven MOMS Partnership will hold outreach events on October 6 at the Fair Haven Farmers Market located at Quinnipiac River Park, 2 E Grand Ave. and the New Haven Health Department at 54 Meadow St., 1st Floor.
