Sirikanya (Sanya) Chiraroekmongkon, MD, fourth-year resident, has been named to the University of Florida’s prestigious 40 Gators Under 40 list.
The award was established in 2006 to recognize alumni under age 40 whose achievements positively reflect on the University of Florida. To be recognized, honorees must demonstrate a significant impact on their industry and notable civic or professional accomplishments at the state, national, or international level, among other criteria.
Chiraroekmongkon graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in international studies and a BS in biochemistry in 2015. After a year studying Mandarin in China, she enrolled at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, where she co-founded a student-run skin and wound care clinic serving the Orlando homeless community. She also co-founded Rising Youth, a student-run organization teaching local high school students about mental wellness.
At Yale during her residency, she has been the student leader of the Yale Global Mental Health Program for three years and served as co-chair for creation of the department’s first Mission, Vision, and Values statement.
