On Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, enterprise-wide staff masking requirements went into effect. All physicians, employees, and volunteers are required to mask for patient interactions. Patients and visitors are strongly encouraged, but not required, to mask except in specific situations. Read more about the enterprise-wide masking requirement on the website.

Women’s Health Research at Yale has announced its annual Pilot Project Program request for Letters of Intent due Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, by 5 p.m. EST. This funding opportunity is open to all Yale Ladder Faculty. Investigators outside of the Yale community are invited to collaborate with Yale or Yale-affiliated principal Investigators.
To be eligible for funding, you must be a member of the newly formed Women’s Health Research at Yale Collaborative. Link to brief application.

NIH is working to reestablish dates for grant and contract submissions, determine how to communicate details related to missed review meetings, reschedule dates for training, and other activities that were scheduled to occur during and immediately following the period of the government shutdown. This notice alerts the extramural research community of two important updates related to application submission policies.
Letters of Intent
Effective immediately NIH will no longer request or accept Letters of Intent (LOIs) as part of the application process. NIH has occasionally requested LOIs within Section IV of the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to help Institute, Center, and Office (ICO) staff estimate the potential peer review workload and recruit reviewers. An LOI was never required, binding, nor considered during the peer review process. Given NIH’s centralization of peer review processes to improve efficiency and strengthen integrity through the Center for Scientific Review (CSR), the LOI is no longer serving the same purpose to estimate ICO workload. To further increase efficiency and minimize applicant burden, NIH is removing the LOI from the application process. LOIs that have been submitted will not be acknowledged nor reviewed by the respective ICO or CSR. Potential applicants are encouraged to review NOFO instructions carefully as they are subject to change.
Unsolicited Applications Requesting $500,000 or More in Direct Costs
Effective immediately, NIH will no longer require applicants requesting $500,000 or more in direct costs (excluding consortium F&A costs) in any one budget period to contact the funding Institute or Center (IC) before application submission. In line with this change, applicants are no longer required to include a cover letter identifying the Program Official contact which notes that the IC has agreed to accept assignment of the application. All active NOFOs containing this requirement are superseded by this Notice and will be updated going forward. In addition, the NIH Application Guide and Grants Policy Statement will be updated in their next iteration to remove this requirement.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our department, the Primary Care Center was able to send many families home with bags of food for the holidays! Thank you to everyone who donated and helped spread the word. Your contributions are so impactful!
The AAP explains: "Food insecurity — the limited or uncertain access to enough food — is a critical child health issue that impacts millions of infants, children, youth, and families in all communities across the U.S. Children of all ages who live in households with food insecurity, even at the least severe levels of food insecurity, are likely to be sick more often, recover from illness more slowly, and be hospitalized more frequently. Unfortunately, 1 in 7 U.S. children lives in a household struggling against food insecurity. Pediatricians can play a critical role in addressing food insecurity, a health-related unmet social need with harmful impacts on child health, development, and well-being."

The October 2025 Yale Peds-ACE Award went to Emily Powers, MD, MHS! The Yale Pediatrics Department’s Award for Clinical Excellence (Yale Peds ACE) recognizes exemplary clinicians who go above and beyond for patients, deliver the highest quality of care and personify healing, innovation and collaboration. This individual embodies the department’s vision as a healer, innovator, and collaborator.
As a clinical informaticist, she has been integral to the success of our clinical and quality missions. Dr. Powers participated in creation of clinical pathways and Epic Dashboards that allow us to implement clinical practices, and measure improvements in real time across Yale New Haven Children's Hospital.
For her efforts, Dr. Powers has earned increasing leadership within Yale. This includes service as the director of medical informatics for the Department of Pediatrics, which now has a dedicated analyst. In this role, Dr. Powers will continue to collaborate on clinical and quality initiatives across the department. More recently, Dr. Powers was named associate medical information officer for the Yale New Haven Health System, a tribute to her wide-ranging leadership and contributions.

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. The need for blood is constant, and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community.
Many parents and caregivers of the chronically sick children for whom we provide care have concerns about immigration enforcement and the impact it may have upon the health and wellbeing of their children.
