Duman, Pothula: Cell-type specific modulation of NMDA receptors triggers antidepressant actions
In a new paper published in Molecular Psychiatry, Santosh Pothula, Post Doctoral Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Ronald S Duman, and the late Ronald Duman, PhD, Elizabeth Mears and House Jameson Professor of Psychiatry and Professor of Neuroscience, and Director of the Abraham Ribicoff Research Facilities, write that both the NMDA receptor (NMDAR) positive allosteric modulator (PAM), and antagonist, can exert rapid antidepressant effects as shown in several animal and human studies. However, how this bidirectional modulation of NMDARs causes similar antidepressant effects remains unknown.
