Research

The major area of my research interests lies in understanding how proteinuric diseases, namely podocyte injury results in progression to chronic kidney disease. To address this question, our laboratory utilizes injury and genetic mice models, examines human biospecimens and databases, transcriptomics, and live imaging techniques for enriched primary podocytes.

Main themes:

  1. Examining role of the endocytic machinery in podocyte health
  2. Examining the interface of podocyte cell-matrix interactions
  3. Examining modes of podocyte cell death
  4. Examining APOL1 risk alleles in chronic kidney disease
